The process of developing a product needs to shift between phases and focus points: Investigating knowledge - looking at user needs - exploring and ideating a design - discovering needs/improvements - search for answers - trying new combinations - reapplying to design
.. and so on, until the design fulfills all needs, aesthetics and requirements.
The design process is an investigation of possibilities and limitations, a qualitative iterative communication about values, that include all relevant aspects - such as functionality, usability, aesthetics, feel, sound, costs, durability, reuse, assembly, disassembly, sustainable materials, user centered design and much more - all key to ideas, approaches and innovative solutions.
Create unique products that stand out in the market through our product development expertise.
Brainstorm and conceptualize ideas that push the boundaries of industrial design.
A User Interface Design ensures that the user easily intreprets the design an gets the full intended benefit.
We utilize advanced CAD modeling techniques for precise and detailed designs.
Optimize functionality and aesthetics through expert material selection.
We have an in depth knowledge about all the various aspects that leads to a sustainable product. This includes:
- reusability (up- or downcycle) and reused materials
- low impact materials (CO2, VOC, scarcity, harvesting, transport, reuse and disposal)
- durability and repair
- flexibility and modularity
How a project starts:
Most projects starts with an initial short meeting, where we meet and listen to your needs, expectations and wishes.
This short meeting is confidential, non-binding and free of charge.
- Next meeting is often an in-depth dialogue to further clarify the findings from the initial meeting and make a plan for how to reach the goal. Which processes are best? Is it a market analyses, price and user expectations, or ergonomic, materials and mechanical solutions? And what about sustainability? Often the process includes all these focus points and more.
- Together we map out these focus points, balance their importance and sketch out the initial approach.
Sometimes we need a workshop with brainstorms in workgroups, and at other times a few emails are enough.
- With these focuspoints we can initiate an investigative process. Our Wave-model can include focus points like these:
- Idea developement
- Competitors and prices
- User expectations
- Functionality and complexity
- User experience
- Interface design
- Ergonomics
- Aesthetics
- Flexibility and modularity
- Sustainability:
CO2-emission, durability, design for repair, reuse of existing materials, reuseability of materials and recycling
- Technical and mechanical possibilities and limitations
- Redesign and upgrades of existing product
- Documentation (CE, medico etc.)
- Prototyping, production time, packaging and distribution
- Critical designs: mapping of 'known knowns', 'known unknowns' and 'unknown unknowns'.
The sketching starts in an iterative process, where the functional sketch is considered through possibilities mentioned above, which brings new perspectives, possibilities and limitations. Through a number of cycles, and sometimes setbacks, the sketch is refined to the end goal.
One of the steps in testing the functional design is sometimes by producing prototypes on our 3D-IDEX printer. This allows us to test the product in the early phases before the actual production-phase.
